Device manager error code 39

installed new Sony dvd rewriter as master and dvd-rom as
slave.
worked fine yesterday and today I have an error code 39
on both drives in the device manager.
any help???????
 
Did you install the software for the DVD writer? XP does not support these
drives natively.
