device manager/driver problems

I just did a fresh install of Microsoft Windows XP Professional and
installed the latest device drivers for my hardware. I've noticed a few
strange behaviors with the device drivers and wondering if someone in here
might know how to fix the problems.

1) The drive icon for my Plextor 16/10/40A cd-rw will occasionally disappear
from the 'My Computer' window as well as from the 'DVD/CD-ROM drives' branch
in Device Manager. When the icon is not present software is unable to
access the disc in that drive. To get the drive to reappear I can 'scan for
hardware changes' from Device Manager. The result is the drive reappears
(it's not reinstalled, just reappears).

2) Occasionally out of no where my keyboard (Logitech Internet Navigator)
will stop working. A look in Device Manager shows the yellow ! next to the
keyboard device driver. To get the keyboard working again I must uninstall
the device driver then 'scan for hardware changes' which detects the
keyboard and reinstalls it.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. remove _nospam to reply via e-mail.

Make sure your motherboard drivers and BIOS are up to date.

If its a USB keyboard, try just unplugging it and plugging it in again.
My Logitech Cordless Optical mouse does the same thing, and used to do a
total re-install until I found this simple answer.
