Device Manager blank

I first noticed that my internet surfing slowed down after
a few minutes. A reboot helped.
Then I noticed my sound card stopped working (and the tray
icon for volume disappeared)
Then I found I couldn't see my LAN connection in View
Network Connections (I have two NICs and neither were
there).
Then I found that the device manager is completely blank.
Nothing there at all. The add new hardware wizard doesn't
launch either.

Only thing I can think of is I recently installed and
uninstalled iTunes. Even though I didn't like it, I can't
imagine the software is that bad.

I'm running XP Pro SP1

Hi,

For the Device Manager:

Go the Start/Administrative Tools/Services. Scroll down to Plug and Play
Service and stop and restart it. Once done the Device Manager will populate
again.

Thanks Kelly! That worked like a charm. Wonder how it got
shut off in the first place....hmmm.

Cheers!
