Detect and Repair gives me a Windows Installer error message

I need to either repair or reinstall my OfficeXP
application. Yet, everytime I try to do either I get an
error message saying: Windows Installer - This patch
package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the
application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer patch package. What do I need to do to fix
this???
