Detect and Repair deleted my account.. Where is my mail??

Using office 2003, I had to reinstall my antivirus software, when I opened
outlook to check mail, it complained about not having the AV dll (went to
different AV app) and sugested detect and repair to resolve the problem. I
had email at this point, but figured Outlook knows best, BIG PROBLEM! D&R
ran for a while, then pops up with wanting a new acct, etc. where did my old
stuff go??

Look for a file with the .pst extension - that holds all of your
information. Configure a new mail profile and use that .pst file.

I found a FAV file in aplication data/microsoft/outlook in my profile under
documents and settings... Outlook prompted for password to account, and
settings seem correct, however, I cannot locate any .pst files using search.

No mail, but account is reset..

It is a hidden file by default, so you will need to change your settings to
view hidden files. Then, the default location is Docs&Settings\User
Name\Local Settings\Application Data\MS\Outlook.

Ok, viewing all files ( hidden options turned off, as they were before)

This is what I have in my profiles outlook folder:

Outlook.FAV 26kb
Outlook NK2 4kb
Outlook.SRS 3kb
outlook.XML 4kb
outlook~1.srs 3kb

I aint some newbie user who barely knows how to turn their machine on, I
have been working with PC's at second level support level for over 8 years.
This is a new one on me. I know how to look for files and such, and the
responses so far have of little or no help. I really would like to know
where my mail files are, or even what they are being named now since
Microsoft decided to change things around it seems. used to be able to go
grab the /pst and import it. not now, since the data files aren't .pst
anymore, otherwise I would have one somewhere on my machine other than the 6
month old backup I have already imported, which was created with Outlook
Express.
Again this is using Outlook 2003, not OE or 2000. There is something
different, otherwise my PST files would be evident.

Hi,

I am using Outlook 2003 and have a similar set of files to those you
reported here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

My default .pst (data file type created and used by Outlook 2003) location
is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook
The default file name is Outlook.pst
You might look there on your system. Just replace <username> with yours, and
paste into your Explorer Address Bar. There is advice from several people on
this board NOT to import .pst files into Outlook 2003, just open them, which
is what I do. (File> Open> Outlook Data File)

Regards,
Ian.

The .pst file extention has not changed from Outlook 97 to Outlook 2003. It
has always been in the personal storage table (.pst) format. The only
change Microsoft implemented in Outlook 2003 is the unicode format for
storing your Outlook items - the unicode format .pst no longer has the 2 gig
limit that previous ansi format .pst files had. This is the only basic
change and, unless you installed clean and converted your previous .pst
file, it should still be in the ansi format.

How big was your .pst file? Why did you not just go into
Tools->Options->Other->Advanced->COM Add-ins or Add-in Manager to remove the
av.dll? Or just rename extend.dat?

As a self-proclaimed 8 year second level tech support, I would have presumed
that these techniques would have been known to you, along with the
admonition to backup any files before performing maintenance.

You are still looking in the wrong folder. Your pst is stored in your
profile under LOCAL SETTINGS\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. You have
to uncheck to show hidden files to see this folder as well as to see the pst
files, which are hidden by default.

Sorry, I ain't no newbie either, but if you want our help, you have to read
what we are telling you. Your pst files are stored in this folder by
default unless you have change the location of the profile. Did you also
try unhiding files and do a search for *.pst?
