Details view in explorer

How do I set the view in Explorer to details, and keep it
that way?

I've tried setting it in various folders, telling the
system to conform all folders to the view, and evrything
else I can think of.

Sometimes it lasts for an hour or so, sometimes only until
the next time I open a folder, but the blasted icon view
comes back every blaste time.

If there's a way to totally disable every view except
details, I'll accept that. Just tell me how to do it.
