Open a folder and set it to Details view. Then go to Tools | Folder Options,
click on the View tab, and click "Apply to all folders."

Well, yes, that is how it's supposed to work, but unfortunately it does not.
I don't want "Details" but "List", but surely that could not be the reason.
The fact is that after a while, sometimes almost immediately, sometimes in a
day or two, the damn thing reverts to whatever it wants to. In particular,
the folder "My Pictures" and all the subfolders within it absolutely insist
on "Thumbnail" view. I hate it! I have a program to view thumbnails in, and
in Windows Explorer I want a list. Some of my folders have 2,000+ images,
and I want to see a short list of them, not an endless procession of
thumbnails. Even worse is that some of the dialogs, such as "Open," "Save,"
"Attach file," etc. etc., also come up with thumbnails. And they even taunt
me by displaying across the top the word "Unspecified." IT IS NOT
UNSPECIFIED! I specify it time and time again, but Windows simply ignores my
specifications. Is there a fix through registry editing? Thanks for your
help!
