Detaching DWT doesn't remove the DWT contents from the page

Am I missing something or did this feature fall short in development? It
seems to me that detaching a DWT from a page ought to remove the DWT
contents from that page.

Detaching a DWT is not supposed to remove the content applied by the DWT.
