I have shortcuts on my desktop to folders or files (example Notepad) in My
Documents. Which I rename to abbreviate. If I make changes in the file
using the shortcut they are not made to the file in My Documents.
 
Are you making changes to the shortcut? As in not opening whatever the
shorcut points to?
