Desktop tab is missing when I open the Display manu

Dear all, for some reason - possibly because of a virus - the Desktop tab is
missing from the Display menu. Therefore, I cannot change the way the
background appears in the desktop. (for example I want to switch the picture
from tile to center and it is not feasible...) Thanks a lot!!!
