desktop sign in problem

We have 5 users that sign on. Recently when we try to enter our password
the password box is blank - no cursor.

The only way to log on is to ctrl/alt/delete, twice. We don't have to do
this all the time, sometimes we can enter our password in the box next to
our name and everything is fine.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Use System Restore to go back a few days before this
problem became apparent.

I wish is was that easy. Every time we have tried to use system restore it
won't work.
