Desktop problem following upgrade

Have just installed W2K over top of W98SE. My default (and only) username on
W98 was 'user'. Now I have administrator and user. Problem is that under
'user' I have my old desktop with all shortcuts, etc but logged on as
administrator I have a desktop devoid of these icons. How can I get them all
shifted over from user to administrator and then delete 'user'? TIA

What you're experiencing is not really a problem, it's just one of the default
settings.

If it's just the Admin's Desktop view that you're concerned about, simply log on
as Administrator then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop and
copy all of the shortcuts to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop.
This will duplicate the Desktop of "User".

I would not recommend deleting "User".

If you're the only user and want to log on automatically, navigate to Control
Panel > Users and Passwords. Uncheck "Users must enter......" then at the next
prompt select User as the default.

Other than that, if you have a good installation, leave well enough alone.

agreed, you should not use the default Administrator account as your 'main'
account

folders many times, but have never been able to find where the info as
to the icon positions on the desktop is stored. I've always got all
hidden files visible, file extensions visible, etc., but I still can't
see where the info is stored. The individual icon files don't (and
shouldn't) contain the position, because an icon file can be shared by
many different applications. Where'd they hide the position info?

Sorry Steve, but I don't have a clue regarding the icon positions on the
Desktop.

I don't even have the icons displayed on my Desktop because I use the MS Office
Bar, which has a Desktop toolbar that allows me to select a limited set of these
various icons.

You may want to start a new thread on this subject for better responses to your
question.
