Desktop & other programs appearance is smaller

Used my computer last night and everything was fine.
Turned it on this morning and all text has been made
smaller. As if it has been zoomed out, similar to what
you would do when viewing an online map.

I'm sure it is a simple fix, but being new to XP I'm not
sure how to do it.

Appreciate any help offered.

If it looks simly zoomed out, probably you inscrease display resolution.
Right click on desktop > properties > settings > in screen area change the
resolution of you display > apply.
