Hi All,

I have a PC with XP pro. It had virus SMSSU.exe and TMNTSRV32.exe. I used
the Norton Antivirus to delete them. When I boot up the PC, it only
displays the background without the desktop (icons and start button). I
tried the save mode with the same result. I can launch the Task Manager and
then run CMD. At CMD I can run notepad but not explorer.exe (it give me a
'no such file' error). How can I make the desktop show up? BTY, SMSSU.exe
and TMNTSRV32.exe are gone now.

Thanks a lot.

Firstly, make sure that there is no evidence of the virus (it's not in
quarintine in Norton AV). Then you may want to try a system restore (Found
under Accessories > System Tools). Restore it back to a date previous to
your infection and the cleansing of those files.

If that doesn't work, You can repair your Windows by booting it from the
Windows CD. Note that if you do this, and your Windows CD does not have SP2
already on it, you may have to reinstall SP2.
