Hello,

What could cause XP desktop not to load after the computer has been idle
over night? We have one computer on which this has happened several times.
On afternoon user locks the the PC when he leaves for home (just locks.
Doensn't log off). Next morning he unlocks it succefully but the desktop
items does not load. There's only blank desktop backgroud image. Nothing
else.

It's a Dell Optiplex GX520 PC with XP SP2 and all updates installed. I have
checked power saving settings, scanned it for viruses and even restored the
software image with no help. When this happens there's no error or warning
events in the XP event log. Bios harddisk checker tool indicates that the
disk is OK.

Any ideas? I'm running out...

Thanks
-Will

I'm not sure if you still need help with this or not, but in case yo
do ...

Does the computer still work correctly, even though the desktop doe
not display (e.g., what happens when you hit the Start button o
Windows key on the keyboard)?

What are the power management options set to?

Where there any changes made to the computer at the time the proble
started happening?
