DESKTOP ICONS

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE OPAQUE BOXES AROUND MY DESKTOP ICONS GO AWAY. WHEN I FIRST GOT MY COMPUTER THEY WERE NOT THERE. THE ICON TITLES WERE UNDER THE ICONS WITH NO COLORED BOXES. NOW I HAVE THESE DARN OPAQUE BOXES IN WHICH SIT THE ICON TITLES. THERE IS NO "CLEAR" COLOR. ANY IDEAS? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Hi,

Please turn of caps. To set the desktop icons to transparent, try this:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Double-click System
3. Select the Advanced tab, and click the Settings button under the
Performance header.
4. Make sure that on the Visual Effects tab, the option Use drop shadows for
icon labels on the desktop is selected.

If this doesn't help, right-click the desktop, point to Arrange Icons By and
make sure that Lock Web Items on Desktop is un-checked.

As in old DOS days, the ALT-255 char inserts a blank character, used for creating secret folders ;)
