Desktop icons

I had to use my recovery disk for the first time and now the icons on my
desktop don't show the small box in the upper left coner when you click on
it, like it did when I first got the computer.How do I restore this?. I
didn't do a back-up because I had no important info on it.
 
Control Panel -> Folder Options -> 'View' tab -> 'Adavanced Settings: "Use
check boxes to select items"'
 
Thanks Keith. I had the opposite problem -- I wanted to get rid of those
check boxes and couldn't figure out how. Now they're gone! :-)
