In Windows 98 there was a file called ShellConCache. I was able to delete
this file and Windows would recreate it. This improved the loading of my
desk top icons.

Is there a similar file in XP SP2 Home ?

In Windows XP it is a hidden file called IconCache.db

%homepath%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db

After deleting IconCache.db, it will be automatically recreated.
