Desktop Icons Won't Open

I just Re-installed Windows XP Professional on my computer. I am running a P4 2.4Ghz with 1GB RAM. I reinstalled Roxio Photosuite 5 and Netscape 7.1 after doing about half of my programs and neither one will open from the desktop or the start menu. I do run McAfee Securuty Suite 6, Adware 6 and Spybot S&D. I had all security features disabled (broadband cable disconnected) when I tried reinstalling a 2nd and 3rd time. I even ran all spyware program after the fact. Nothing has helped. Any help will be appreciated
