Desktop icons revert to default

Hi,
I have all my desktop icons named something different than default. When I
reboot, or sometimes even without rebooting, certain Icons revert back to
their default state.

Specifically they are:

My Computer
My Network Places
Recycle Bin
Outlook
Internet Explorer.

All the other Icons hold my custom settings, but I have to go back and
rename the ones I mentioned. Does anyone know why, or how I might fix this?
I would prefer a solution that does not require some third party software to
run in the background.
