Desktop Icons Disappeared

Husband was on computer. He noticed all desktop icons had disappeared when
he was getting off computer. He had been in Outlook checking/sending email.
How can I restore the desktop?

A simple step can also be check first:

1. Right-click on Desktop
2. Point to Arrange Icons By
3. Make a check mark on Show Desktop icon.
