Desktop icons disappear

when i create a shortcut from my desktop to a web page (ebay) it puts
the ebay icon on my desktop. when i clean my system it disappears, how
can i stop this or is it stored on my pc.

The easiest way is to save the favicon.ico file to your drive and then
associate the shortcut with that. The reason it disappears is because it
gets the information from the TIF and when you clean them out the icon is no
longer there so it reverts to the default IE icon. You can just save the
icon of your choice to your drive somewhere, right click the icon, and
select properties, click customized, and then change icon. In the new window
that opens you'd just point to the icon you'd saved and be done with it. The
above link gives an alternate method and the poster had a lot of questions
so it's pretty well explained there if you want more information.
