Windows XP
My desktop icons fonts are enclosed in a colored box. I would prefer to
eliminate the box and just have the icons showing with an underline of the
fonts when I put my cursor on the icon. Could you please direct me to the
proper area so that I can make this change.

Thank you in advance,
Hank Laskin

Try to right click on empty area on your desktop .. click
properties ... appearance ... then play around with the
setting there until you find one that you like

Hi Hank,

Start/Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/ Visual
Effects/"Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop"

Also:

Right click the desktop and select Arrange Icons by. Towards the bottom of
that list, uncheck "Lock web items on the desktop."

For underlined: Windows Explorer/Tools//Folder Options/General/Click items
as follows.....
