i change the recycle bin full to a star and the recycle
bin empty to a butterfly.

but it does not hold. it stays for a bit and then i
notice the default icon is back and i have to go back
into display to change it again.

any thoughts

Here is a workaround, from Keith Miller. David Candy suggested that nVidia/ATI drivers are causing the problem (Try rolling back the drivers).
