Desktop Icon Transparency

After installing Norton 2005 Premier and using the System Optimizer, my
desktop icons are no longer transparet. The background color is showing
through the icon labels and around the icon picture.

I undid each of the tweaks I did, and the desktop color was still showing
through. I uninstalled Norton, and the icons remained unchanged.

How can I make my desktop icons transparent again?

Right-click on your desktop and select:

Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web (tab)
and uncheck "Lock Desktop Items", click OK and APPLY.

Also, check this setting:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:
Properties > Advanced > Performance settings >
Visual Effects, place a check next to "Use Drop Shadows
for Icon Labels on the Desktop", then click "apply".

Open Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance>Settings>Visual
Effects>"Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop".

If the above fails then:-
right-click the desktop, select to Arrange Icons By and make sure that
Lock Web Items on Desktop is un-checked.

I did both of these actions and there was no change. If it makes any
difference, I am using XP Pro with SP2 installed.

I was having the same problem with xp pro and service pack 2 and what i
found is that when i turned off the web page i had attached to my
desktop the previously mentioned fixes worked.

I have tried clicking and unclicking the drop shadow box. Neither helps this
problem. In the web page attached to the desk top, all I see is Home Page
but it is not checked and I can't delete it.

My icons were transparent till yesterday when all of a sudden there was the
colour of the desktop. Is there something that I am missing?

Thanks,

I just fixed the problem by running the Windows Desktop Cleanup Wizard! It
was just a hunch but it worked.
