Mac desktops have small icons with text at the right side.

Ages ago managed to format PC desktop icons the same way but now I
cannot find out how I did it. I should like to do so in this new
notebook using XP.

Therre is a Shell32.dll hack (using reshacker or another PE Explorer) which
allows you to add the "View icons as > list > thumbnails > etc" context menu
to the desktop but it breaks this functunality elsewhere in the OS so I dont
recommend it. I heard there was a registry hack as well but I never found one
to work, it may have been removed at SP2.

Use a virtual desktop application instead or there are plenty of freeware
Dock apps (Like Rocket Dock) that are a lot easier to manage and resemble
MAC's even more.
