After I startup my computer and click my username the
entire desktop goes red. the mouse pointer can still be
seen and the task manager can be brought up and seen if I
hit ctrl alt del but thats all I can do. Booting up in
safe mode I get the same problem. Just in safemode
everything is black with safemode in the four corners..
Any ideas dont think its video

Thanks Ryan

Have you tried right clicking an empty space on the desktop and select
properties? Then select the desktop tab, and check which color your
desktop was set to use? You can reset everything back to the default
from here.

It's video. Either your card is bad or your monitor is bad. Or the
monitor cable is bad.

Have you tried changing or reseating the monitor cable?

Why don't you think it is your video card? Have you tried a different
one? The way to troubleshoot this is to:

a) First check the monitor cable going to the computer to make sure
there are no bent pins.

b) Connect the pc to a different monitor - if everything is fine, you
know the original monitor is failing and you will need to replace it.

c) If the problem exists when the computer is connected to a different
monitor, then you know the video card is faulty. Try swapping it for a
known-working one. If the problem disappears, replace the original
video card.
