Hi ... this is driving me crazy so if anyone can help... I'd really appreciate it. I just got a new computer & the desktop icon has a colored block around the font. On my previous computer the colored block was transparent & the wallpaper would show directly behind the font. I've tried changing the desktop properties... but just can't seem to find the particular item that removes the colored block (which is the same as the desktop default color)

Help... I'm going crazy!!!

Thanks. Sylvia

Control Panel>Display>Appearance tab>Effects... button. Unmark "Show
shadows under menus" if checkmarked. Alternate Plan B: If that won't work,
go to Desktop tab>Colors button. Select a color the same as the shadow
around icon name.

Thanks Malv... but neither of these worked... i'm so frustrated. When I tried your alternate plan... & changed the color... the box around the font just changed colors...

Thanks for trying... if you have any other ideas... let me know!!!

Can you tolerate a black background using Plan B ? This is what I use, more
because of my vision and the contrast it provides. This took care of any
black shadows-at least on this puter :)

Right click on the Desktop, Arrange Icons By and uncheck Lock Web Items
On Desktop.

I only knew that one 'cause one of the kids did it on our PC.
Interesting that it doesn't work for you as well.

Are you running Active Desktop (I've never used it so it may be
irrelevant). Only other thing I can think to try is log off and log back
in after unchecking Lock Web Items On Desktop.

Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/Visual Effects/"Use drop
shadows for icon labels on the Desktop"

AT Control Panel - System - Advanced, In Properties click Settings, and
in the panel ensure that 'Use drop shadows for icon labels. . .' is
checked

Saved this for future reference.
