I seem to be regularly seeing a file appear on my desktop
just labled as '~'. I delete it. Can anyone tell me
what this is, where does it come from and how to prevent
it ???

Regards

Tom

Hi!
This happens when you make a change and/or view the Address Book[OE].
You can either rename it with a .dbx extension or delete it.
For further ref: please see:-

Chris,

many thanks for prompt response. Read article and now
all clear.

Why .dbx? Being a backup of Address Book, it should either be
renamed .wab or even .wa~ , which it should be if Microsoft ever fixes
this bug.

If left alone, "Mysterious Tilde File" will continue to be automatically
updated whenever you close OE after making any change to Address Book.

If renamed to *.wab or *.wa~, a new "Myterious Tilde File" will be created.

PA Bear,

I'm fully aware of what the tilde file will do. My last line should have
read
"or just leave it alone." My response was to ssg MS-MVP pronetworks.org,
and why he/she always advises to rename to .dbx, which is OE storage files.

Hope this clears that up,
Dick Lewis
