Desktop file is replicated on every start

I have a file that is being added to the Desktop on every start.
Bioshoch.pdf. After several starts, I have several copies. I can delete
them all, inlcuding the original file, but the process continues. Soon I
again have multiple copies on the desktop.

I have XP x64 pro.

(Also, this may be going on elsewhere in the system, but not so visible. I
just ran out of disk space on drive C, when I was sure I had a very
comfortable margin just a week ago.)

What are your antivirus and anti-spyware arrangements?

How large is your hard disk and how much free disk space?

Gerry, I use Avast antivirus, Yahoo Anti-spy and my drive space on C: is
186GB. At the time, I had less than a GB left. I now have 29 gigs free due
to some deletions and moving to drive d:

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

It is likely that an allocation of 12% has been made to System Restore
on your C partition which is over generous. I would reduce it to 700
mb. Right click your My Computer icon on the Desktop and select System
Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select Settings but this
time find the slider and drag it to the left until it reads 700 mb and
exit. When you get to the Settings screen click on Apply and OK and
exit.

I discovered one problem: FRAPS. Its video capture hotkey was set to the
same key as Bioshock's quicksave. The Fraps videos took nearly 90 gigs!!!!!

BTW, It would be nice to see the size of the files in a folder without look
at its properties. Once, IIRC, this could be done from the file explorer.
I found the FRAPS problem by looking at the folders one by one. Very time
consuming.

Gerry, Installed it an it does not show folder-size. Probably the problem
is that I am using XP x64.

Any further ideas about the duplicating file on the desktop?
