I recently had a spyware removal program (by whom I do not know) pop-up and
start running on my system. Also at the same time a blue background with a
black rectangle box centered, and in that RED lettering stating "Spyware
Infection" Bla Bla Bla under that also appeared. I closed out the spyware
program (cause I use Ad-aware 1 - 2 x's daily) and did not think anything of
it. Well now that damn black rectangle on blue won't leave. My selection
for changing the wallpaper is all greyed-out. I CAN NOT CHANGE MY WALLPAPER.
how do I fix this "slight" irritation?
Thank you in advance

Try booting in safe mode and running ad-aware twice. I am sure you haven't
fully removed the spyware (it is far cleverer than ad-aware) and simply
reinstalls itself every time it is deleted. I had this same infection twice
this week. Also check you start up items very carefully there will be some
enw entries in there masquerading as legitimate processes. There is also
likely to be a new service installed so check your XP services for a
randomly named service (will be a bubnch of random charcaters such as
dfgellappea) and delete the service as follows:

Click Start then Run. Type CMD and press enter. At the command prompt type
sc delete dfgellappea then press enter. Replace the random charcaters I
have used in this example with the ones used in your case.
