Desktop Cleanup kills links

I installed XP a few months ago, and when the (damned) Desktop Cleanup kicked
in (set in the "on" position as default), it killed off all the links I had
added to my desktop and had not used recently, BUT did NOT create an "unused
desktop Links" file MS says should have occurred. All links are gone. No such
file exists. This is the second time this has done this to me. I have found
and turned off the damned cleanup feature. Where are my links?
&^%$$&*&^()!!!!

Don't you have restore points? Does using the relevant one help?
(I'm not sure- never tried for this).

Alan, Thanks for the idea, but I have already spent the time and re-built all
the links. I still don't know why MS did not create the file it says it
should. Anyone know?
