desktop background

I've been having a problem for a while changing or even getting my desktop
background to do anything other than plain colors. It won't let me access the
browse function or any of the pre installed backgrounds. I had a background 1
day then the next it was just plain blue and has been ever since no matter
what i try.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.

did yo ever get an answer because I have the same problem.
