desktop background

I have a question about the desktop background. I have a laptop from
hp, and it came with a default desktop background. I can change that
by going in the display properties. But when I log out, the default
background comes back. How can I change that?

Thank you.

The regedit thing did not help.

I used tweak UI and that worked.
