Well, I did a boo-boo. Windows XP. I was looking at photos in My
Documents/My Pictures and thought I clicked on "view as slide show", but
actually clicked on "set as desktop background". Now I have a desktop
background that I cannot remove. It is probably a simple procedure but I
need help. I have googled and gone to search and help but could not find
the proper information.
TIA.

Go to start>run and type

desk.cpl

then go to Desktop.

Then you can choose whatever background you like.

Sorry, but I'll assume you just bought your PC.

Here's how to remove the background: On your desktop R click with you
mouse > scroll appearing menu all the way down L click "properties"
small window appears on top L-click the second tab from the lef
(desktop) now you should see a list of all the backgrounds that can b
installed scroll to the top and click none if you like the borin
emptyness of no background then at the bottom apply OK.
I just hope the next problem you'll get is a little trickier to solve
