Desktop Alert / Delete / Mark as Read

With the Desktop Alert feature in Outlook 2003 there are
several options you can perform on the message--open,
flag, delete, and from the drop down arrow you can also
mark as read.

Is there a way to delete AND mark as read?

I have the same problem... I would like to be able to delete mails via the desktop message, but how can I automaticly mark them as read, when, or before, they reach the "Deleted" folder
