Each time I open my computer I get the folder 'Commom files' open on my desk
top. I have searched preferences but can not find a way to stop this
occuring. This anomily only started a few weeks ago before that everything
was normal. Any ideas how I can correct this annoying event.

Install xp cd,exit the info page,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:Sfc /Scannow
Run the DOS window in Min.,sometimes the graph runs behind it,when the
graph is thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,then type:EXIT Restart
computer,remove cd.

Hi,

Suggestion:

Verify that all the values in these keys do not contain any incorrect,
incomplete, or null entries (such as ""). Also make sure that all entries
that have spaces are included within quotes. These values can be checked
here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If this isn't the case, run this combo, then post back:

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot and HijackThis:

Note: Update each program, once installed, before running.

Thanks to andrew and Kelly for suggestions. Unfortunatly I'm not as savvy as
I should be to follow suggestions.
When I run 'regedit I get a number of files: At the top is default Value
not set.
'Common files' is mentioned as part of three different paths? Nothing shown
for HKEY_Local_Machine etc or HKEY_CURRENT_USER. I did not see any spaces or
null entries. Can one of you please walk me through a possible fix?
Thanks,

Thanks Kelly,
I discovered I have two free contacts with microsoft and I have been getting
help from their pro. To date I have tried about four solutions from
microsoft none of which have worked so far! Anyway I will stick with them
for the present. Thanks for your interest in my problem.
