Can someone tell me what size the basic slide should be? I'm using PPT 2003.

That works for me. How does it turn out in pixels? I am going to do a lot of
Web publishing.

It is approximately 1024 X 768, if your display resolution is 1024 X 768.
 
I think when publishing, the default in PowerPoint is 800x600 unless you change
it under: Publish | Web Options... | Pictures
