Is it possible to remove a design template from just one slide within a presentation? If so, how do I do it?

Right-click an empty area of your slide, select "Background", click the
dropdown arrow and select a color (probably white), click the "Omit graphics
from background...", then click "Apply" to apply it to that slide. You now
have a white blank slide.

and apply that to the slide/presentation.
