DEP window pops up when opening My Computer

Whenever I open My Computer including its contents like My Pictures, Control
Panel, and Recycle Bin, etc., what I clicked does not open and instead the
DEP window pops up saying:
To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.

Name: Windows Explorer
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
-----
When I close that message an error report comes up.
I click Send Error Report or Don't Send, and then the computer crashes.
Then the wallpaper is replaced with the Active Desktop Recovery.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.

What can I do to solve this problem?

Jessica, try this:

Go to Start > Run and type in sfc /scannow

You will be asked for the Windows XP CD so make sure you have that handy. I
hope this helps. Thanks.

I don't have a Windows XP cd because my computer already came with it.
Thanks, though!

Jessica,

Right click on My Computer
Select - Properties
Click on the Advanced Tab
In the first box on the top of the tab (marked " Performance") click on the
"Settings" button.
When the new "Performance Options" box comes up - select the "Data Execution
Prevention" tab.
Make sure that the "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services
only" -is the radio button selected.
If the second option is selected that is most likely your problem. Now OK
your way back and reboot.
Good Luck!

The "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" was
already selected, and I still can't open my stuff. Thank you, though!
