Regarding DEP

Windows XP Media Edition
When we boot the machine, there a pop-up that says

Data Execution Prevention
To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program
Name: COM+ Cluster Wizard
Publisher: Microsoft Corportation

With a "Close Window" button and
A link for "What should I do"

I know a solution would be to use the boot.ini file to disable DEP, but I
think that there could be a root cause for this and that disabling DEP
might make things work.

I have run MSRT, Spy Bot S&D, AdAware and done a complete virus scan using
newly installed Avast AV.

This is not my machine, I am doing the troubleshooting via "GoTo
MyMeeting" because for some reason, I am not able to connect to the desktop
in question using MSN Request Remote Assistance...but that's a question
for another news group.

Cheers

Chris,
Go to the DEP page by going to the System properties page
(right-click on My Computer then choose the 'Advanced' tab and press the
'Select' button in the 'Performance' section. Then select the 'Data
Execution Prevention' tab) Within this page you find two options. Select
the 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select'
option. Then you may use the 'Add' button to add the program to a list of
exceptions you can create.
This is a far better alternative to rashly turning of DEP via the
boot.ini switch.

Yes, that was an alternative I had considered. Is it possible
to add the COM+ program that is triggering the DEP to the
exception list?

I would really like to get to the root cause of the issue. Why would
COM+ be causing a DEP to be triggered unless it is an invalid version?
Would it be worth while to investigate installing a new, up-to-date version of the
COM+ program?
