Demand Dial

S

Sherra Duran

I am using W2k3. I don't find a newsgroup for W2k3 RAS, so I am posting
here. Both servers involved are W2k3.

I have a remote site that was using demand dial successfully to connect to
our server and access network resources and the internet. This is a one-way
connection from remote site to server.

Somehow, a few weeks ago, the remote site server lost the modem settings.
We re-installed the modem. My technician futzed around and deleted the
original RAS settings for the demand-dial router.

In trying to re-create this connection (I am not the original system admin
that set up this connection) I have been able to establish the following:

1. remote dial-up to server is successful
2. can ping all addresses on network

We are not able to do the following at the remote site, once connected:

1. access any network resources
2. establish internet connection

I suspect it is in my settings RAS->IP Routing.

In the IP Routing settings, I have included the IP address of the main
server RAS router and the subnet mask. This allows a successful connection
from remote site to main server, but cannot successfully ping anywhere in
the network.

I then included the entire network IP Range and subnet mask for our main
site. This allowed me to successfully ping network devices, but unable to
access resources, or the internet.

Any help would be appreciated. I have no experience in Dial-on-demand and
am getting frustrated.

Hi,

Access any network resources - do you mean browsing using Netbios ? If yes
you may need to enable Netbios name resolution
Open RRAS MMC Snap-in, click on the server name->Properties->IP, check on
enable IP broadcast name resolution.

What do you mean by not able to establish internet connection. Which site
has internet connectivity ?
Can you give more details about topology (including IP addresses).
