dell xps gen 3 cant get xp to find my serial ata hard drive

My hard drive crashed. SO I went to reinstall windows xp on my seagate serial
ata hard drive 160GB. I used there drive set up utility. Then tried to load
xp pro. but set up says it cant find a hard drive even though I have it
plugged in to the motherboard and all. Im not computer pro so I am stuck with
no computer or os on my machine
how do I fix this I bought the machine from another and have no machine
disks only my new copy of windows xp pro

actually after hours of trying everything under the sun a lady on dell chat
gave the answer, the bios was trying to set up raid. but i only have one disk
so she sent me to

I changed the setting and presto xp is loading and im formatting the 160GB
baracuda seagate serial ata drive all is well thank you for your time and
help its people here who make the difference to us all
