Dell Service Tag and User Name

When I publish to my ftp site my Dell Service Tag Number appears with my user
name. To publish I need to remove the Service Tag Number by default so that
just my user name appears.

I have not talked to dell yet . . . I think Ill try tomorrow. I know that my
Dell Service Tag is the name of my computer and that's the way it was on my
old Dell but I never got the Service Tag Number on in in the FP doalog box.

Open System in Control Panel.
On the Computer Name tab, click Change.
Under Computer name, type a new name for the computer, and then click OK.
If the computer is a member of a domain, you will be prompted to provide a
user name and user password to rename the computer in the domain.

If your computer is networked with a domain, there are more notes in Help
and Support center under: rename a computer

You, or your company one, must have named the computer the service tag
number. None of my Dell computers came with the service tag as the
name, including the last one 4 months ago. The service tag is already
attached to the computer, so there would be no reason to have it as
the name unless it's for company control. I don't think Dell tech
people that would answer email would ever pick that up. :-(

I made the change as suggested. But the FP dialog box shows whatever name I
give the computer. So I can change it but it still gives a name that I need
to remove. So I still have to call Dell tomorrow.

Like this?

"54GSKH/username"

Where 54GSKH is your service tag?

I get that with certain computers on my network (with a domain) and not with
others.

Near as I can tell it has to do with the authentication on the server you
are logging into (as it does not appear on all servers I use, so it's not a
client issue)

There is probably nothing you can do about it.

Stop bothering Dell. It's a Windows/Networking issue and not their issue.
They won't have any clue how to get FP to work the way you want.

Removing the username is a minor inconvience anyway.

Have you considered changing the name to your slogan, catch phrase or
something that ties into you site?

My guess is that that is the machine name. Your user name on that machine is
separate.
