I don't know if I can make it any more plain English, but I'll try:

PC133, SDRAM DIMM

PC133 defines the standard, and max clock speed for the RAM.

SDRAM is the type of memory chips on the module. Synchronous Dynamic
Random Access Memory.

DIMM is the physical shape and size of the little circuit board the
chips are mounted on. Dual Inline Memory Module.

CAS3 is the memory timing. Having the memory timing set higher than
the memory is capable can cause problems. I'm not 100% sure, but I
think PC133 modules are CAS3 or CAS2 anyways, so I don't think you'll
need to worry about this. You can ask to be sure if you wish.

Only other thing you need to specify is the capacity of the module you
want to buy. I'm not familiar with DELL model numbers, but many if it
uses SDRAM DIMMs, it's probably a few years old, and likely has has a
max memory limit of 256Megs or 512Megs. If you want to be safe, buy a
256Meg module. If you deal with a shop that has a good return policy,
try a 512Meg.

Many memory manufacturers have a tool on their website to help you select
the correct ram for your system. Try:

It's low density memory. It's not easy to find. Most places don't have a clue
about the differences between low and high density PC133.They even tried to
tell me that all one sided PC100,133 was low density. There was a lot more high
density PC133 made and very little low density. You'd have better luck with
PC100 SDRAM.I've tried to buy it assure me it will work and when the order
arrived it was invariably high density PC 133. Try Crucial. But I had problems
with them too. Glad I don't need to do that any more.

You COULD go to the Alpha Memory website, http://www.memory.com , and
use their memory configurator to specify and purchase memory. Their
prices are quite reasonable...

Yea, me too! Some manufacturers specifically discuss this issue at their
site and direct you to the right stuff, but you gotta look hard for it.

are you suggesting that pc100 memory will work in place of pc133
lodensity?
