Dell Axim won't connect after XP upgrade

Axim X51, Mobile Version 5.0 synching to XP Pro SP2. I haven't been able to
connect since upgrading to XP from 2000. Have also upgraded to latest
ActiveSynch version (spent 3 hours on the phone with Dell to no avail).
Software installs OK but then drivers won't install when trying to install
new hardware. Dialog box says the device or device name is already in use.
It seems from other posts I've read that the device should be making a
network connection which it's not. It's recognized as a network adapter
though. I have successfuly installed this on a different computer so I don't
believe there are any cabling issues.

HELP!

Maybe it's a Winsock issue.

Click Start, Run, type:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

You can also try this software download from a working machine:

LSP-Fix

Bummer! Neither of those worked. Any other ideas?

Whatever hardware won't install, open the Device Manager, properties of
the device, change the drivers to the new versions. Or remove the
devices, run the software to install the drivers again.

Probably best to delete any references to your current desktop name and
remove everything/unplug the cradle and start over again.

Important to do a hard reset on the unit also.

There is a newsgroup for ActiveSync:

microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync

Lots of good help available there.

Have already tried that. It seems like it's supposed to make a LAN
connection but that's not being done, but yet it does show up on the device
manager as a network card with drivers needing to be installed (see first
post). Have uninstalled/reinstalled software and did a repair on XP OS.
This is on a networked PC and the LAN for the network/internet is there and
fine. But that's the only LAN connection.
