Deleting ".tmp" files

T

Tim

This came from HP as part of a "fix".
Step 2: Delete unnecessary temporary files and folders
from the
computer.

NOTE: Delete temporary files carefully to ensure
that necessary files are not deleted. All temporary files
use the extension ".tmp". If you are unsure about
selecting the proper temporary files for deletion, contact
Microsoft Windows Technical Support for assistance.

Could you tell me which files I need to keep?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

Most .tmp files can be deleted safely, were there any in particular that you
are questioning? If so, what is the name and in what folder are they
located?

Which ones to KEEP? No...there's too many of them! lol

Go into IE...and delete temporary Internet files. Then go into OE and
compact folders. Then do a search for *.tmp and delete all that
you find.

Hi,

There are some applications which use the temp folder for its functioning and hence if its files are deleted when the program is in use ,then that applicaiton might stop functioning.

They can't be deleted if they're in use.
