deleting titles on a clip

How do I delete titles on a clip. I want to get rid of one but can't figure out how to do it. I have tried deleting the entire clip it is on but the title doesn't go.

Did you try selecting (single-clicking on) a title on the
timeline and just hitting the delete key ?
