Deleting Shortcut ICON From Desktop

Guest

I have un-installed a program from my machine. I want to delete the ICON
from the desktop. This used to be no problem in XP, you just right-clicked
on the subject, and then delete. The Icon was gone. Now, I right-click,
check delete, and the system tells me it can't find the program to which the
ICON is associated, so it can't remove from the desktop. I tried drag&drop,
and got the same response.
Why was this feature changed. I hate to go through the time of
re-installing a program that I won't use, just so I can remove an ICON. I
guess I could just ignore it, but why should I have to?

Right-click the icon -> Properties -> 'Security' tab -> 'Advanced' button ->
'Owner' tab

Are you the Current Owner?

I am the owner, operator, administrator, etal. Your answer is not an answer,
as I do not have an Advanced button present in my simple Home Premimum
edition of VISTA. Even if I did, what would going there accomplish?

Ah, yes...I see where you mentioned Home Premium in your original post...as
well as detailing the permissions on the shortcut....Whether it was
filesystem or namespace, etc.

Sometimes troubleshooting requires gathering additional information...but
this obviously offends you, so I'll leave you alone.

Sorry to bother you.

Oh, SRI, didn't realize that it made a difference when it came to the simple
procedure of deletion that it had to be a special type of OS. And, as far as
incomplete info - I'll leave that to you to ponder. I do appreciate your
effort to help, whether it was successful or not.

True, so why does it search for the program, and then deny deletion? This
was never the case in any MS programs that I have previously used. Even with
the program gone, it did not matter, just delete the ICON. Makes no sense to
me.
