Deleting mail opens next message...

I will pick and choose what messages to read. If I read the message and then
delete it from inside the message, the program will then open the next
message in line.
Is there a way to set it up so that deleting a message from inside the
message will not open the next message and just return to the mailbox??

No. Don't delete from inside the message if you don't want the next
message to open. Delete only from the message list pane.
